John “Marc” Oliver

John “Marc” Oliver, 68, of Amelia, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 20, 2022, the same day as his beloved mother (July 20, 2013). He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Oliver and Gladys Lillian Wade Oliver.

He is survived by his sisters, Sharon O Bates, Judy O Coe and Lora O Lynch; nephews, Vann Madison (Nicky), Matthew Bates (Jianna), Jesse Lynch (Kandice) and niece, Sarah Bierlein (James); an aunt and uncle, many cousins and friends. Special recognition to his cousin, Carlene, for her faithful love, prayers, encouragement and support. And to his ex-longtime girlfriend and the love of his life, Pam Ward. They remained friends to the end.

Marc grew up in Richmond, but he loved the small town country life and that is why he loved Amelia County and was blessed to live there the last 25 years of his life. He graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1971. He was a hard worker, mainly worked construction, but was a jack-of-all trades. Marc was not rich, but he had a wealth of knowledge in that highly intelligent mind of his with an exceptional memory. He was naturally funny and loved entertaining his family and friends with his quick witt and great sense of humor. He had a big heart and was quick to help someone in need. Some of the things Marc loved were children (especially his niece and nephews), deer hunting with his short legged beagles, fishing (especially on the Rappahannock River), University of Virginia sports (especially football), NASCAR racing (especially if a Chevrolet won), Buckingham County (the birthplace of both his parents), his coffee and daily newspaper, sunsets, music and riding in the country.

Marc was a good looking man and you’d never catch him without a brush to keep that beautiful head of hair looking good. Marc loved his family and they loved him. He will be greatly missed by all. Life goes on, but it will never be the same without him. Make the most of each day because it could be your last.

A funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 20) at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St, in Amelia with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Bible Broadcasting Network, 11530 Carmel Commons Blvd, Charlotte, N.C. 28226.
