Amelia Day is Saturday

Amelia County celebrates its 287th birthday Saturday (May 7) beginning at 9:30 a.m. The annual celebration which had to be canceled in 2020 and was postponed until October in 2021, returns to its normal date, the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Entertainment includes performances by many local-grown talents including the Amelia Academy Chorus, the Amelia County Public Schools’ band, the Sparklers and Shimmers dance teams from Studio E & M and more. “The festival happens rain or shine and will only be canceled if the weather is forecasted to include high winds and/or thunderstorms. Due to the costs of renting the stage and all of the port-a-potties and hand sanitizing stations, and all of the other vendor festivals in the area, it is not feasible for the committee to consider a rain date,” said Amelia Day Committee Chairman Bekki Morris. A complete schedule of the entertainers along with vendor information is available on page 13. Information about the street dance that follows Amelia Day, beginning at 6 p.m. is available on page 12.
