Ryan Cumbie 2022 Amelia County High School Valedictorian

The valedictorian at Amelia County High School for the class of 2022 is Ryan Cumbie.

Known for his academic dedication, Ryan is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. He is also a DECA club member for three years and has served as secretary and vice-president. He is currently one of the high school’s school board liasons.

Ryan was awarded the Southside Electric Cooperative scholarship, the Amelia Masonic Lodge Scholarship, the Tronfield, West and Durett Scholarship, and the Dixie Youth Baseball National Scholarship.

He is the son of Richard and Kimberly Cumbie. He was awarded an $80,000 scholarship from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he plans to attend in the fall, majoring in Engineering.

As a student enrolled in Governor’s School, Ryan also received his Associate’s Degree in Science during Southside Virginia Community College’s commencement program held Saturday (May 14).

Salutatorian for the class of 2022 is Peyton Coleman. In addition to academic excellence, Madison serves in leadership roles in NHS and Beta. As an officer and member of Beta, she has organized eight blood drives for the Red Cross.

She has played volleyball, soccer, basketball, and ran track at the varsity level.

She was awarded the Amelia Masonic Lodge Scholarship, the Amelia Ruritan Scholarship, the Nicholas Montague Memorial Scholarship, the Amelia American Legion Scholarship, the Amelia American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship, and an American Red Cross Scholarship.

On Saturday (May 14), Peyton was among those Governor’s School students who received an Associate’s Degree from Southside Community College.

Peyton is the daughter of Laura and Roy “Chip” Coleman. She will attend Virginia Tech in the fall, where she was also awarded the Pamplin Leadership Scholarship. She plans to major in business.
